Summary:

Reporting to the Clinical Manager (Audiology), the Clinical Educator (Audiology) provides a professional and full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services and clinical supervision of students in a university-based clinic.

 

Job Description:

• Provides audiological assessments of hearing in population of all ages,  auditory rehabilitation services, including the dispensing, evaluation, and validation of hearing aids and assistive listening devices, and services in a specialized area of focus (e.g. vestibular assessment, tinnitus assessment/management, cochlear implants, auditory processing disorders, electrophysiological measures).

• Accurately and promptly completes required documentation, including report writing, use of electronic medical records (EMR), coding of services and diagnosis(es), provision of justification of services rendered, and communicates, according to state and federal regulations, with appropriate agencies and professionals.

• Precepts students in audiology practica; builds rapport with student clinicians and effectively facilitate their self-actualization and development of clinical skills; demonstrates and teaches clinical and practice management skills; observes, collects, analyze data on student performance; engages in discussions with students to set goals and plan for improvements; documents student progress and goals; submits grades, as appropriate; and reviews evaluations of supervision by students and use evaluation data to improve performance.

• Develops and executes experiential and didactic clinical laboratory lessons as part of the audiology practicum courses; and integrates learning objectives as outlined by accreditation standards.

• Demonstrates current knowledge and experience, and develops expertise and leads efforts to expand clinical service provision in at least one of the following clinical areas, including cochlear implants, pediatric assessments and amplification, (central) auditory processing evaluation and management, assistive listening technologies, tinnitus evaluation and treatment, or vestibular and balance evaluation and treatment. 

• Actively participates in Audiology program, GU Allied Health Services, and School of Health and Human Services (SHSS) meetings; supports the Audiology academic program by clinical instruction as appropriate, participation on school/program committees; participates with faculty members and others in applied clinical research; program staffing by formally presenting information or by actively interacting with other presenters; presents to program students on subject matter that needs reinforcement thereby bridging the academic-clinical approaches; and presents to visitors and other programs and University personnel in continuing education endeavors.

• Participates in peer reviews for evaluation purposes, and mentoring of staff, students and peers, serves as a mentor for new staff, students, and peers.

• Participates in and/or contributes to GU Allied Health Services operational and service development and maintenance, including policy, protocol and procedural updates; maintains equipment and materials; and improves upon productivity processes and practices; and follows University policies for professional appearance.

• Follows established University, school/program, and GU Allied Health Services policies, procedures, and objectives.

• Adheres to regulations governing confidentiality, including but not limited to HIPAA and FERPA; and respects confidentiality of students, clients, and of colleagues.
