BellRinger is a bike ride and community movement to end cancer. Our year-round effort peaks with BellRinger Weekend when we come together to celebrate our impact and ride our bikes to raise funds for cancer research. Riders join up to ride 25, 50, or 100 miles and commit to raise at least $1,000 for cancer research. Our team is a bit different than your average nonprofit. We view BellRinger as a fast-moving start-up with unlimited potential, and we are each deeply invested in BellRinger’s success. Our goals are ambitious, and we work hard to achieve them because we know that the BellRinger community’s efforts will save lives. We hustle, we try new things, we aren’t afraid to roll up our sleeves, and we have a lot of fun!
The Executive Director will set the tone for our movement and be the driving force behind our growth as we continue to build the BellRinger community. As the public face of BellRinger, the incumbent recruits Riders, secures financial partnerships, and stewards the BellRinger community. BellRinger’s Executive Director is also responsible for furthering the interests and priorities of the Ride and Georgetown Lombardi to core university leadership and stakeholders. Reporting to the Vice President for Medical Center Advancement internal board of Georgetown University leaders that includes the Vice President of Advancement and other leaders of Georgetown University’s Office of Advancement, the Director of Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the university’s Chief Operating Officer, additional duties include but are not limited to:
Rider Recruitment and Stewardship
Grow BellRinger’s ridership to more than 2,000 Riders over a three-year period, developing and executing a Rider recruitment strategy across four segments: the corporate community; Georgetown University, community groups, and MedStar Health.
Partner with Georgetown University leaders to leverage existing university relationships to build large teams of Riders, building relationships with c-suite executives and companies as well as community groups to build large teams of Riders.
Craft a compelling and impassioned pitch rooted in a personal connection to cancer and an appeal to Georgetown Lombardi’s impact that will motivate people to sign up and ride.
Motivate others to recruit Riders on BellRinger’s behalf and manage relationships with stakeholders and community members committed to BellRinger’s success.
Build relationships with Riders and steward them to ensure a high return rate for subsequent rides.
Partnership/Sponsorship Development
Develop and execute a partnership strategy relying primarily on corporate sponsorships that will offset the costs of the ride.
Partner with Georgetown University leaders to leverage existing university relationships, developing lucrative long-term BellRinger partnerships.
Build relationships with c-suite executives to invite their organizations to join the BellRinger community and secure lucrative long-term BellRinger partnerships.
Develop media relationships and seek opportunities to generate broad exposure for BellRinger throughout the community.
Team Leadership
Lead the BellRinger team – Manager of Operations, Manager of Marketing & Ride Operations, Director of Rider Recruitment, and Senior Director of Development and Corporate Relations – by supporting each team member and investing personally in their development.
Guide the delineation of ownership and responsibilities across the BellRinger team, providing feedback to team members on their work and act as the final decision maker on all major decisions.
When necessary, grow the team and recruit new team members to join BellRinger.
