About the role

We are looking for a proactive, reliable and well-organized Laboratory Technician with expertise in supporting research and operations in life science automation laboratories. Your role will be vital to the success of the newly established DTU Arena for Life Science Automation (DALSA; https://dalsa.dtu.dk/). 

Together with a multidisciplinary team, you will implement DALSA’s operational framework to facilitate the development of cutting-edge robotics solutions and the execution of automated experimental workflows. You will further help provide life scientists with seamless access to high-end laboratory automation equipment and workflows to enable their research. As our Laboratory Technician, you will be at the critical junction between developers (automation, robotics, and data specialists) and end-users (life scientists). This pivotal role positions you at the heart of our efforts to advance automation within one of the most research-intensive, innovative, highly productive and growing industries both in Denmark and internationally. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team of researchers, engineers, technicians, PhD students and Postdocs and support educational programs and interact with students at all levels. 

The job
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Laboratory Technician, preferably with experience in life science laboratories and automated workflows. In this role, your day will be divided between supporting life scientists in achieving their biological research goals via DALSA’s equipment and secondly contributing to the development of new automation solutions and workflows. You will be responsible for implementing DALSA’s framework for how users access and interact with the facility, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will also work closely with DALSA’s staff to ensure the smooth operation of the facility and to further develop the setup enabling automation solutions for the life-science laboratory. 
Key Responsibilities 

  • Implement the technical and administrative setup that supports DALSA’s activities, including access to the facility for public and private users, project safety, purchases and service agreements, as well as training and onboarding of new users.  
  • Support the development and implementation of new automation solutions. 
  • Ensure the maintenance and continuous update of the robotic systems in the facility. 
  • Perform routine laboratory duties, manage laboratory inventory and order laboratory supplies. 
  • Support the educational programs, courses and student projects at DALSA. 
  • Troubleshoot emerging technical problems and seek new solutions. 
  • Participate in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Technical Reports. 
  • Obtain relevant training for improving the performance of your main task. 

Skills and Qualifications 
You have an education as a Laboratory Technician (Laborant uddannelse), Automation Technologist (Automationsteknolog) or Automation and Operation Technician (AU i automation og drift), combined with a relevant work experience. As DALSA is a high-tech, high-throughput facility, organization, structure, and attention to details and quality are essential. In addition, you have: 

  • Experience with automation, ideally from a life science end-user facility with external customers. 
  • Experience in routine laboratory duties and laboratory management. 
  • Experience in using LIMS and ELN systems. 
  • Experience in programming and operating automated liquid handling systems will be advantageous. 

 We are looking for someone who: 

  • Is good at multi-tasking, have the ability and bandwidth to manage multiple projects and tasks. 
  • Is creative, proactive, and have a goal-oriented mindset. 
  • Has good interpersonal skills and an interest in working in an international multidisciplinary team.  
  • Can systematically troubleshoot problems and identify potential solutions. 
  • Is fluent in English, both oral and written. 
  • Has good communication and presentation skills
