About the role

Description

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, is currently accepting applications for the UTSW General Internal Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship beginning July 1, 2023. This two-year program is designed to train individuals interested in academic medicine to become general internists as clinician-investigators, clinician-educators, and/or quality and safety experts. Fellows have an opportunity to complete a Master of Science in Clinical Research, a Master of Public Health, or a Master of Health Professions Education, if congruent with their career goals. Fellows will complete courses in research methods, biostatistics, epidemiology, outcomes and health services research, and grant writing leading to a Master of Science in Clinical Research, as well as training in quality improvement and patient safety. Fellows also conduct a mentored project in their area of concentration (research, education, quality improvement). Mentors have expertise in epidemiology, outcomes, health services, disparities, comparative effectiveness, applied informatics, quality improvement, patient safety, primary care, geriatrics, palliative care, hospital medicine and medical education research. Fellows have opportunities for inpatient and outpatient clinical work, teaching, and research in the university health system, an integrated, safety-net health system, and the VA health system. Fellows receive a stipend and full benefits package along with an allowance for books, travel, and related program expenses.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an M.D. degree, or equivalent, from an approved LCME medical school and satisfactory completion of an Internal Medicine residency program from an ACGME accredited program. Candidates must be eligible for Texas medical licensure and be American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board eligible.
