The Senior Human Resources Generalist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of human resources processes within the University. This position focuses on processes and responsibilities pertaining to hiring and onboarding, compensation, performance management, compliance with collective bargaining agreements, and overall HR Operations program management. Reporting to the Director of HR Operations, the incumbent collaborates closely with the Human Resources Leadership Team and Vice President of Human Resources, to drive strategic initiatives and maintain compliance with University, legal and contractual requirements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities   

  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for core HCM and compensation business processes.

  • Evaluates HR policies and programs to identify areas for efficiency, operational effectiveness, and technology supports to deliver customer service excellence.

  • Applies best practices for the enhancement of all HR Operations business processes within Workday and related systems.

  • Supports the HR Operations Director with ensuring compliance of federal and state laws, university policies and union regulations.

  • Compiles information for AFT and Non-Aligned employee personnel actions and prepare Personnel Matters packets and resolutions for submission to the President's Office for BOT meetings.

  • Coordinates the foreign national visa process for new and existing faculty members.

  • Maintains current Faculty and Staff Handbook information, ensuring alignment with contractual changes and drafting calendars related to professional staff for AFT union review and approval.

  • Coordinates the Professional Staff Performance Range Adjustment Committee Charging process.

  • Initiates requests for reappointment recommendations for annual and multi-year professional staff reappointments ensuring accuracy and compliance with the University policies and contractual agreements.

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and certifications.

  • Coordinates with Talent Acquisition in managing the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process for AFT and Non-Aligned employees.

  • Assists with HR programs including performance and talent management, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations.

  • Participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

  • Remains informed about HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and technologies related to human resources, talent management, and employment law. Other duties as needed.                                                                                                                     

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and one (1) year of professional experience. The education requirements could be replaced with three years of professional experience in related field. Proficiency in Workday or similar enterprise system strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to supervise the maintenance and confidentiality of essential records and files.

  • Ability to comprehend complex changes in rules and regulations and apply them effectively.

  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
