Reporting to the BID-Milton Manager of Public Safety and Security, this position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the BID -Milton Hospital property areas by possessing a safety centric mindset with a focus on customer service and WE CARE standards at all times. This position is considered a working lead, however performs a wide variety of supervisory, inspection and scheduling functions along with general security functions.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Responsible for scheduling and ensuring 24/7 shift coverage for Public Safety Officers and contracted Security Officers.
- Oversees, distributes and assigns shift tasks such as post assignments, ID badge, parking lot audits, code drills and unit tabletops, lost and found inspections, and conducts shift briefings.
- Reviews cameras, daily activity reports, and patrol tours; analyzes data and provides monthly reports.
- Collects and archives weekly site incident statistics.
- Assists with the development, rollout, and compliance of departmental policies and procedures.
- Provide coverage at the Public Safety Communications Center.
- Attends assigned committees, meetings, and trainings (e.g., Workplace Violence, Safety Committee, Emergency Management committee, etc).
- Acts as a liaison between the hospital and local emergency services
- Assists the Manager of Public Safety and Security with departmental operations and efficiency
- Maintain consistent communication with Nursing Supervisor
- Responsible for the support of all Public Safety and Security personnel on assigned shift.
- Monitors BID-Milton Hospital facilities through proactive interior and exterior patrols to prevent, deter and identify potential criminal activity, identify safety concerns and public safety hazards. Escalate identified issues following department policies and procedures.
- Welcoming, assisting and directing all staff, patients and visitors into the facility while ensuring all applicable BID-Milton Hospital rules & regulations and operating policy & procedures are being met and/or abided by in a professional manner.
- Monitors all CCTV and alarm stations for criminal and/or safety situations, taking required applicable steps and making needed notifications
- De-escalates crisis situations using verbal techniques; applies physical restraint techniques when necessary.
- Performs varying degree of patient watches and monitoring, rounding, parking lot audits and post assignments, as directed.
- Tours the facility and reports any applicable security and/or safety issues to appropriate parties.
- Responds to all emergencies, codes, and requests for assistance.
- Prepares and submits complete and accurate incident and daily activity reports.
- Maintains effective communication and positive working relationships with hospital staff and external partners ensuring all issues, assistance requests and follow-ups are handled in a timely and complete manner.
- Assists all hospital departments to ensure safe and secure operations.
- Supports the hospital’s mission and core values by providing exceptional customer-focused service for patients, visitors and staff.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the BID–Milton Manager of Public Safety and Security.

Education/Experience:
- Possess 1-2 years of formal training or education in specialty or related specialty beyond the high school level. Associate's degree or higher preferred
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team as well as being a team member
- 2+ years previous/current Healthcare Public Safety/Security, law enforcement, and/or military experience in a supervisory role required.
- Familiarity with computers and Public Safety equipment. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications. Ability to properly and effectively use radio communication equipment.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care and Life Safety standards related to Security.
- Thorough working knowledge of the hospital environment.
Certifications/Licensures:
- Must obtain and maintain Level III AVADE Certification within 3 months of employment.
- MOAB or other, may be substituted until training is offered by the organization. <
