Post-doctoral fellow – Joag lab

Tissue resident memory T cells (Trm) perform tactile immune surveillance in frontline mucosal tissues to protect the host from infectious diseases and cellular transformation. The focus of the post-doctoral position in the Joag lab is to understand how the interplay between CD8 Trm and stromal cells fortifies and diversifies tissue immunity against infectious diseases in some contexts but may exacerbate tissue pathology in others. The post-doctoral trainee will have access to cutting-edge mouse models and non-human primate (NHP) tissue samples and datasets and apply conventional and spectral flow-cytometry, imaging and single cell and bulk transcriptomics.

General Job Responsibilities:

• Drive research projects in an independent manner while collaborating with lab members and other researchers
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, and maintain detailed, updated, and accurate records
• Meet with Principal Investigator on a regular basis to discuss proposed/ongoing work, discuss implications of findings, and provide insights into new research directions
• Willingness to learn bioinformatics or work with bioinformaticians on bulk and single-cell RNAseq analysis
• Write manuscripts, present data at lab or departmental meetings, and national and international conferences
• Apply for post-doctoral fellowship grants
• Assist PI in writing grant proposals and protocols
• Mentor an undergraduate student
• Experience with non-human primates (NHP) is not required; however, willingness to work with NHP tissues on a few occasions is necessary

Experimental Techniques:

• Multiparameter flow cytometry
• Tissue harvesting and processing
• In vivo infection models and mouse husbandry
• Static and live animal imaging
• Image analysis (ImageJ and Imaris)
• Cell culture: primary immune cells and stromal cells
• Bioinformatics (bulk and single-cell RNAsequencing)

  

Required Education and Experience
Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.

Required Credentials
N/A.

Preferred
Previous experience conducting research in the pediatric arena.
Experience in protocol and manuscript development and in grant writing.

Compensation Range

$77,958.40 - $116,937.60 per year

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
