This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will use CAD to design and modify surface models, solid models, and drawings to support the design of the Crew Capsule Pneumatics Subsystem. With the help of design engineers and structural analysts you will release designs for the next generation of New Shepard vehicles.

The New Shepard team is headquartered in Kent, WA and hiring preference will be given to folks who are willing to relocate to Kent, but applicants for our other on-site locations will absolutely be considered.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepare / evolve design layouts, create and maintain detail part and assembly drawings using CAD and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
• Review engineering drawing and designs to ensure alignment to established specifications and standards.
• Support engineering teams in the development with mechanical layout and detail design and drawing for structural, mechanical, fluids and electronic detail parts and assemblies.
• Application of relevant company (design, drafting, parts) techniques to plan, lay out, and maintain data reflecting engineering design intent (detail, assembly and installation drawings or datasets).
• Implementation of engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule and performance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2-year AS degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience
• 2+ years’ experience managing large CAD assemblies and associated engineering media
• Knowledge of designing/drafting in aerospace, automotive, marine, or similar applications
• Proficiency with structures, mechanical systems, fluid systems, or electrical systems design
• Bias to learn
• Mechanical design and integration skills using 3D software
• Familiarity with existing applicable drafting standards (ASME Y14 series)
• Facility to effectively communicate and collaborate across a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bias for design for reliability, manufacturability, and maintainability
• Hands-on product development background
• Experience using PTC Creo CAD and Windchill PLM configuration control tools
• Experience administering large CAD assemblies and associated engineering artifacts

 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $38.18-$53.46
