The Prime Finance In-Business Negotiator is responsible for the direct negotiation of legal agreements with clients, playing a pivotal role in the monetization of the sales pipeline. This role contributes to the growth of the Prime Finance and Equities franchise by ensuring that we deliver a positive experience for clients. The successful candidate will operate independently, driving, and coordinating negotiations in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and making a tangible impact on the growth of the Prime finance business.
General Responsibilities
- Oversight and Ownership of Client Negotiations
- Leads and executes negotiations of Prime finance documentations directly with clients.
- Organizes and clearly articulates Citi’s negotiation position to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain professional and effective communication with clients and their counsel throughout the negotiation process.
- Driving Innovation and Continuous Development of the Platform
- Apply in-depth knowledge to continuously develop and improve legal agreements.
- Work closely with Trading Desks, Sales, and Product teams to adapt legal agreements to changes in products and services.
- Work closely with Sales.
- Regulatory and Industry Expertise
- Stays informed on key regulatory and industry changes that may impact the business and clients.
- Contributes to discussions on adjusting business direction to address material industry developments.
- Provides Sales and client coverage teams with support and insight on market practice and negotiation strategy.
- Risk and Control Oversight.
- Negotiate legal agreements to the profile agreed with stakeholders in the risk organization.
- Ensure documentation does not deteriorate a good commercial outcome for the business.
- Identify and escalate potential legal, commercial, or reputational risks during negotiations.
Primary Responsibilities of the role:
- Apply in-depth knowledge to negotiate and finalize a range of legal agreements, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and risk parameters.
- Lead negotiations with internal and external stakeholders on Prime Finance structures, actively driving solutions.
- Collaborate closely with sales, trading, legal, risk, and product teams to ensure negotiations are in line with the business goals for the client.
- Analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory changes to identify potential impact on documentation forms, products and services.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the Prime Finance business.
Qualifications
- 6-10 years of experience in a Prime Finance or financing related business.
- A strong understanding of Prime Finance legal agreements (swaps, prime brokerage and futures clearing agreements).
- Working knowledge of NY Law and the principles relevant to financial markets.
- Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple concurrent negotiations.
- Ability to use analytical tools to assess business data and trading performance, identify trends, and derive actionable insights.
- A good understanding of capital requirements and industry standard documents. Knowledge of financial accounting is a plus.
- Working knowledge of funding, stock lending, and margin loan booking models, coupled with a deep understanding of financing structures
- Demonstrated ability to develop, structure, and negotiate complex financial products.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of translating financial concepts into actionable strategies and driving solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to effectively engage and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- High degree of independence and self-motivation, with a track record of successfully driving initiatives and negotiations to completion.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements associated with financing and clearing product sets.
- Experience in assessing and controlling operational, market, or credit risk, with a focus on identifying and mitigating potential issues.
Education
- Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.
- Legal qualifications preferred.
