Temporary Research Assistant (part-time 17.5 hrs/wk)
Research staff position in the Gus Hart Lab (Physics & Astronomy) focused on evaluating the effectiveness of synthetic data for training AI models for cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) image analysis
What you’ll do in this position:
Research
Perform AI model training and benchmarking using synthetic, phantom, and in vivo cryo-ET datasets.
Support synthetic data simulation and preprocessing workflows.
Analysis
Analyze and compare model performance across training regimes.
Maintain reproducible computational pipelines.
Publications
Assist with preparation of publications and research reports based on data collected and analyzed.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
Bachelor’s degree in physics or related area
Familiarity of cryoET
Experience with synthetic cryoET data
Experience comparing phantom data and synthetic cryo-ET data
Preferred:
Experience with machine learning for image analysis.
Previous work in AI models for cryo-ET

Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.25 an hour
