Wabtec Intern Program: Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisor

Who will you be working with?

As an intern with our Field Services Americas team, you will see firsthand what it’s like to help our customer (BNSF) maintain their fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives through advising, informing, researching, and assisting their mechanical employees. You will be part of a team made up of Wabtec technical and materials experts, all working to ensure our customer’s fleet is running at optimal levels.

How will you make a difference?

Our Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisors are trained subject matter experts in diagnosing and troubleshooting a variety of locomotives. They receive world-class training at our corporate training facility where they become certified in troubleshooting and advising on the maintenance of state-of-the-art locomotive engines. As an intern, you will get a first hand look and work side by side with Wabtec Locomotive Maintenance Technical Advisors to discover all the benefits of this exciting and rewarding career path.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a Technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal

What will your typical day look like?

  • Assist TA’s with coordinating and providing instruction on key programs and procedures related to locomotive maintenance/modifications
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to create repair opportunities in the shop and to gain access to craftsman labor force
  • Work as part of a cross functional team, driving a "one team" focus, dedicated to customer success within the shop
  • Begin completing the various Wabtec Level 1 Locomotive Online Training courses
  • Begin completing Level 1 TA OJT tasks
  • Learn to navigate Wabtec eServices, catalogs, schematics, and other various resources
  • Learn to use and navigate customers computer system
  • Gain understanding of emission standards and emission critical components
  • Completing various short-term projects given by Shop manager
  • All other duties as required

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Walking throughout the day
  • Walking up and down stairs
  • Climbing on/off of locomotives
  • Fitting into small or tight spaces if/when needed
  •  Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day
  • Speaking and hearing
  • Typing and operating a computer
  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required
  • Willingness and ability to work various shifts in a shop environment
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is $18.00 - $27.00/hr. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: year of study and field of major. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
