Assistant/Associate Professor, Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program

The University of Montana (UM) is pleased to announce the launching of an Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program (OTD) and invites applications and nominations for the full-time, tenure track position of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position will work closely with the Chair of the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences, the OTD Program Director, the OTD Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, and the OTD Doctoral Capstone Coordinator to develop and implement the OTD program. This Assistant or Associate Professor is assigned to the occupational therapy educational program as a full-time faculty member as defined by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and will have teaching, research, and service expectations commiserate with subject matter expertise and school Unit Standards.  In particular, this position requires that candidates must have an established program of research and experience in mentoring graduate students in research and/or scholarly projects. 

The Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program (OTD) has been designed to meet accreditation standards established by ACOTE and will accept the first cohort of students during the fall of 2025. The OTD Program is part of University of Montana’s College of Health that houses the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, & Occupational Sciences (SLHOS). The College of Health has a strong tradition of supporting outstanding teaching research and scholarship to promotion interprofessional health programming and is home to the health professions training programs of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy Practice, Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Science, Social Work, Public & Community Health, Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana, Integrative Physiology & Athletic Training, and the SLHOS School. The SLHOS School houses the speech-language pathology Master of Science, doctoral (PhD), and undergraduate programming in addition to the new OTD program and post-professional OTD. The SLHOS School was developed to support the OTD launch and related faculty development and provides an ideal home for interprofessional academic training, clinical, and research activities.

Position Details

Tenure Track Faculty: Speech, Language, Hearing, & Occupational Sciences

Title: Assistant/Associate Professor

Schedule: Full-time academic year (10-month) position

Entry Rate: $70,000-85,000 commensurate with experience

Primary Duties: Teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities may include didactic instruction as well as clinical education/clinical supervision dependent upon expertise. A typical teaching load in SLHOS for tenure-track faculty is 15 credits per academic year (e.g., 9 credits fall semester, 6 credits spring semester).

Qualifications

• Certification as an occupational therapist. Applicants must be registered by NBCOT and must be eligible for an OT license for the State of Montana
• Post-professional doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  Prefer PhD or EdD but will consider other post-professional doctoral degrees.
• A minimum of three (3) years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy including:
  • Clinical practice as an occupational therapist
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
• Established program of research and experience in mentoring graduate students in research and/or scholarly projects.
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to excellence in teaching students
