SUMMARY
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Perform building construction work including but not limited to ceiling and acoustical tile installation, sheet rock repair/finishing, and door opening maintenance.
Obtain materials needs for assignments
Repair, replace, and maintain building door hardware as needed
Repair and install plastic laminate, toilet partitions, and toilet accessories
Keep records/timesheets and itemize duties performed on the job
Read building plans and diagrams
Calculate cost estimates as needed
The person filling this position will be required to participate in an on-call rotation
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
Must be able to work overtime, including weekend/holiday on-call and emergency call backs
Must have a good driving record, valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a city driving permit
Must work well as part of a team
Must be able to lift 75lbs. of equipment and/or tools
Ability to load and unload extension ladders from top of utility van and place upright against buildings
Ability to climb ladders, crawl and work in small spaces
Must work in an organized, clean and safe manner
Ability to use the Microsoft Suite and a computer-based work order management system
Preferred Qualifications:
High School diploma plus six (6) years of experience with a mastery of skills in journey level construction work
Considerable knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and practices of the building construction trade
Experience working in local government and public safety facilities
Experience with commercial door hardware. Locksmith background a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
Three (3) years of work experience for applicants with no High School diploma/GED or High School diploma with one year of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of background, experience and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
