Basic Purpose
Prepares and reviews all functions related to tax forecasting and planning required for the Company. Participates in the interpretation of the Internal Revenue Code, Regulations, case law and related rulings, and ensures accurate reporting of corporate tax information to management, regulators and all government agencies. Ensures proper communication of relevant tax data to all stakeholders enhances the value of the company, while minimizing expenses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Forecasting
- Responsible for all areas of corporate planning and forecasting for the Company. Ensures timely and accurate filings of the 10-yr UI plan. Prepares and review reports, journal entries and reconciliations related to tax forecasting of the Company and monitoring of these related accounting areas.
- Calculates and inputs the complex tax credits (ITC, PTC and others) and their proper accounting both in the UI forecast, the IRP filings as well as the SEC financials.
- Responsible for the proper tax accounting of the IRP filings
- Leads team in the review of all new, frequent, and complex tax legislation, provides direction in implementation of new laws, provides memos to internal and external parties on tax positions.
- Communicates regularly and clearly the tax financial information. Explains operating impacts including variations form budget and prior periods.
- Reviews the tax impacts of the regulatory complex computations within the UI model.
Business Transformation and Problem Solving
- Leads the corporate taxation team on special projects and process improvements by identifying opportunities for improvement, developing new process or policies and their successful implementation
- Leads tax department on any business transformation initiatives related to forecasting
- Keeps current on new tax law and opportunities and implements them in a manner most advantageous to the corporation. Consults on relevant aspects of corporate operations.
- Manages special projects as necessary; with new legislation and new systems frequently incurring, this can be complex and require excellent communication and organizational skills.
Compliance
- Reviews and assists with various areas of compliance for the Company as needed. Ensures timely and accurate filings. Provides reconciliations and support for complex tax transactions.
- Works with the regulatory team to provide tax expertise to the many regulatory filings. Assists the Director of corporate taxation on expert testimony in the GRC filings and prepares/reviews various regulatory filings.
- Leads the tax department as the liaison with Internal Audit on SOX 404 Internal controls.
Leadership and Mentorship
- Provides mentorship and training to other members of the tax department.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in accounting or related field and 6 years of progressive related accounting and financial reporting or audit experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of
- Financial reporting and the company’s business process.
- Finance, accounting, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Debt, intercompany, cash and accounts receivable accounting.

- Analytical, interpersonal and communication.
