Position Summary:
1) Perform annual inspections of emergency eyewashes and safety showers to ensure compliance with OHSA and ANSI Z358.1.2014 guidelines. These units are found in research labs, greenhouses, art studios, barns, libraries, dining, and many other facilities throughout the Ithaca Campus and Geneva Campus locations. Student employees will be responsible for scheduling, completing annual inspections, cataloguing inspection results, submitting service requests, tracking that all units are returned to service, and implementing process improvements with oversight from program manager. Multiple software and database systems are used for documentation and will be taught such as Maximo and the Hazard Assessment Signage Program (HASP).
2) Complete a campus wide survey of accessibility standards as applied to emergency eyewashes and safety showers. This will involve photographing and documenting the specifications of existing campus units.
3) Opportunity to assist EHS sections including Lab Safety, Biological Safety, Radiation Safety, and Environmental Compliance on special projects, inspections, and related activities.
4) Pass required EHS trainings for facility and lab access with flexibility to earn the Lab Safety Certification.
Work Schedule:
Mon. – Thurs. between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Fri. 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
39 hours per week – Summer 2024 (end date flexible)
$15.00-$16.75/hour
Minimum Requirements:
- Over 18 years of age with a driver's license, and at least 2 year's driving experience.
- Strong science background, written and oral communication skills, and computer skills. Must be organized, independent, and exercise good judgment.
- Prior experience with Google Sheets, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
