Examples of duties

This role focuses on providing nursing care and treatment services to individuals with medical, behavioral, or developmental needs in a correctional setting.

As a Registered Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

Nursing Care: Deliver nursing services such as checking vital signs, giving medications, performing treatments, and reinforcing health education
Medical Support: Assist physicians during exams and clinics while administering tests, screenings, and immunizations
Emergency Response: Provide first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) support and refer patients to appropriate medical professionals
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate electronic health records, complete written reports, and safeguard controlled substances
Supply Management: Sterilize instruments, handle chemical and steam methods, and maintain an organized inventory of treatment supplies
Team Communication: Share shift reports, communicate urgent information, and support smooth operations within the facility

Work Hours and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
The Department of Corrections is staffed by four (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- 12 hour shifts
  - 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
  - 2nd shift: 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM
  - 3rd shift: 2:00 PM to 2:30 AM
  - 30-minute lunch.
Work hours TO BE DETERMINED. Employee works 80 hours in a 2 week period with rotating days off.
Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $89,882.00 (before taxes).
