Position Overview
This position is accountable for corridor, design, and combined location studies for highway improvement projects on the annual and multi-year construction program.
Essential Functions
- Prepares the engineering sections of corridor, design and combined location studies in accurate and timely manner.
- Prepares alternate designs for location studies.
- Reviews location studies prepared by consultants and other agencies for completeness according to policy and procedures.
- Responsible for complying with the various department policies to prepare project studies for approval.
- Assists with informational meetings and public involvement to describe projects.
- Trains, motivates, and evaluates indirect subordinate personnel.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor of science degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college OR a
current Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate OR a current Professional Engineer license in the state of Illinois OR a current Structural Engineer License in the state of Illinois. Those applying with only a degree must have a minimum of 2.0 (out of 4.0) cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). If cumulative GPA is between 2.0 and 2.5 (out of 4.0), applicants must also possess a current Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate OR a current Professional Engineer license in the state of Illinois OR a current Structural Engineer License in the state of Illinois. - Thirty-seven months of experience in civil engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD).
- Working experience in studies and plans, and construction.
- Knowledge of the policies and procedures
