At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression. We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

For over 30 years, Raytheon operates and maintains the Navy’s three Relocatable Over The Horizon Radars (ROTHR). Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day. The ROTHR mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.

This is a service contract position Raytheon has with the US Gov't. This contract has set non- negotiable rates and this position will pay $39.73/hour. This position is located in Freer, TX.

What You Will Do

  • Oversees technical performance of ROTHR Receiver Site and provides written/verbal technical reports, as required.  Leads the watch team and exercises independent judgment in oversight of systems level operation and monitoring of ROTHR receiver site equipment.

  • Performs systems and network troubleshooting, using complex (and possibly undocumented) test equipment on ROTHR receiver site and communications equipment, consisting of Phased Array Antennae, RF Hardware, Digital Hardware, Microprocessors, Minicomputers, Server Farms, and peripheral equipment.  Performs all levels of maintenance beyond capabilities of ROTHR Receive Site Technicians and performs self-inspection of the site on a daily basis.

  • Coordinates sub-system status and troubleshooting information with the ROTHR Operations Control Center.  Executes tasking from supervisor who may also review work for general compliance with accepted practices.  Provides technical training and guidance to lower-level technicians.  Coordinates and assists with troubleshooting intra- and inter- site communications and telecommunications circuits.

  • Work typically requires the watch lead technician to apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents.  Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions using system integration knowledge, and incorporating Investigation Request (IR) engineering changes.  Candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.

  • Reports directly to the site supervisor and/or site lead when operating on nights, weekends, holidays, or any time a supervisor is not on site.  This is a Service Contract position with a set (non-negotiable) hourly rate that also pays a supplemental hourly amount for Health & Welfare.
