JOB DESCRIPTION: Facilities Custodian

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

JOB SCOPE:

The Facilities Custodian is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sanitation, and general upkeep of a multi-building manufacturing plant. This role supports a safe and well-maintained environment for employees and visitors by performing routine custodial duties and basic facility support across offices, restrooms, break areas, production floor walkways, grounds and common areas. This is a part-time position with a minimum commitment of 8 hours per week.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, breakrooms, office spaces and common rooms across all buildings.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum floors and dust surfaces in both administrative and production support areas.
• Remove trash and recyclables from all designated areas and dispose of them in appropriate containers.
• Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer.
• Maintain cleanliness of entrances, walkways, and facility exteriors as needed.
• Support plant hygiene standards by cleaning production floor walkways and ensuring non-production areas are free of debris and dust.
• Conduct regular inspections of assigned buildings to identify and report maintenance needs (e.g., leaks, broken fixtures, safety concerns).
• Perform light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unblocking drains, or minor wall touch-ups.
• Operate custodial equipment safely (e.g., floor scrubbers, vacuums, wet/dry vacs).
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, PPE use, and proper chemical handling procedures.
• Assist with setup or breakdown of meeting spaces or company events as needed.
• Respond to urgent cleaning needs or weather-related cleanup in a timely manner.
• Maintains confidentiality 
• Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner
• Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly manner 
• Performs all other duties assigned

Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

- Minimum prerequisite education, training, and/or experience preferred: 

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1+ year of custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in an industrial or multi-building setting.

- Job Specific Capabilities:

• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, floor care, and chemical handling.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks across large areas.
• Good physical stamina; ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
• Flexibility to work occasional off-hours or weekend shifts as needed.
• The role will require travel between buildings on foot or with facility transport.
• Exposure to industrial/manufacturing environments, cleaning chemicals, and noise.
• Proper PPE and safety training will be provided and required.
• Communication – Ability to read, write and speak English. Must be able to articulate ideas and plans and communicate these accurately and effectively to others.
