Stage Manager, Camp Kaleidoscope, Summer Day Camp

Are you an organized and detail-oriented individual who loves the excitement of live performances? Camp Kaleidoscope, the JCC Greater Boston performing arts day camp in Newton, seeks a Stage Manager for the summer season. As a Stage Manager, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and supporting all aspects of camp performances, including musicals, plays, talent shows, and more.
Responsibilities include:
- Act as Production Stage Manager for two fully-staged musical theater productions each summer, one every four weeks.
- Teach technical theater classes that assist in scenic and prop development progress.
- Work under the direction of the Theater Director and collaborate closely with the camp theater production staff/team.
- Meet deadlines and keep to project budgets.
- Work with the inclusion coordinator to facilitate accommodations as needed for campers with special needs to fully participate with their peers.
- Display flexibility and a positive attitude throughout the production process.

JOB DETAILS: This is an hourly position with a daily schedule of 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Offering great perks, including JCC Health & Fitness center access, a supportive, vibrant in-person work environment, and a competitive starting pay rate of $20 per hour. The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity.
This 8 week camp program is June 22 - August 21, including staff training. While we prefer candidates who are available all summer, we recognize that candidates may have other obligations and are happy to work with your schedule.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sound Design, Technical Theater, or related field, and 2+ years’ experience in lighting design and operation. Must be able to work collaboratively and efficiently.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and familiarity with the needs of families with young children, with a creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and direction into costumes and props for campers.
- Outstanding project management skills from design to implementation, managing deadlines with great attention to detail and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically; ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
- Must be a self-starter who takes the initiative.
- Superb interpersonal and active listening skills
- Works well independently and with others, building/sustaining collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Physical Requirements: Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children’s backpacks etc. Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.
