The Senior Software Project Manager at Varian will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing customer-focused software projects while adhering to Project Management (PM) standards and delivering results that meet business and customer expectations. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, regulated environment. The ideal candidate will have experience managing projects related to ARIA Core and Eclipse, ensuring seamless integration, optimization, and enhancement of these critical oncology software platforms.


You are responsible for:

  • Leading the end-to-end software project lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring alignment with scope, timelines, and budget.

  • Collaborating with Sales Managers, Key Account Managers, and customers to define project scope, technical requirements, and deliverables.

  • Oversee the development, enhancement, and maintenance of ARIA Core (Oncology Information System) and Eclipse (Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning System), ensuring regulatory compliance, performance optimization, and seamless interoperability.

  • Allocating project resources efficiently, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.

  • Working closely with software engineers, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, QA specialists, and external contractors to manage and coordinate cross-functional teams, driving workflow improvements, system upgrades, performance enhancements, and innovation for ARIA and Eclipse.

  • Acting as the primary liaison between the customer and internal teams, ensuring clear communication, alignment of goals, and issue resolution throughout the project.

  • Overseeing software implementation and upgrade projects using Agile methodologies, ensuring adherence to PM standards, regulatory requirements, and business conduct guidelines (e.g., tax regulations, export control, and EHS).

  • Tracking project progress against milestones, proactively addressing scope changes and ensuring software quality meets customer and regulatory expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a healthcare related field.

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in software project management, preferably in the healthcare, MedTech, or enterprise software industries.

  • Strong background in software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), and DevOps practices.

  • Proven experience managing enterprise software projects with a focus on cloud, IoT, and cybersecurity solutions.

  • Ability to work in a regulated environment (e.g., FDA, HIPAA, ISO 13485) and navigate compliance requirements.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • PMP, Six Sigma, or Agile certifications (Scrum Master, SAFe) are a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing enterprise healthcare software projects, particularly in Oncology Information Systems (OIS) and Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning Systems (TPS).

  • Hands-on experience with ARIA Core, Eclipse, and interoperability with EMRs, imaging systems, and treatment delivery platforms.

The pay range for this position is $119,600 - $179,400 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
