About the role

The Impact You'll Make

Are you passionate about advancing sustainability and technological innovation within the rapidly evolving data center industry? As global demand for energy-efficient and intelligent cooling and thermal systems increases, Danfoss remains dedicated to delivering solutions that reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance operational efficiency

Danfoss is seeking a Lead Engineer, Customer Solution Software, for Data Centers, to join our Control Software Development team. Reporting to the Director of Application Software, you will play a vital role in shaping the design and architecture of advanced control software that drives performance improvements and supports the decarbonization of data center operations. Success in this position will be measured by your contribution to developing robust, scalable control solutions and fostering effective cross-functional collaboration across teams

Ideally, this position would be hybrid and located near our Baltimore, Maryland or Tallahassee, Florida facilities.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your main tasks will include:
•    Acting as a system architect to help design flexible control and communication systems that boost energy efficiency in data centers and other industrial settings.
•    Developing and/or modifying model-based control systems in MATLAB and Simulink for our next-generation products, with a focus on seamless code generation and deployment for programmable logic controller (PLC) environments
•    Developing cloud-ready control solutions that support remote optimization and predictive maintenance.
•    Working closely with different teams and external partners (like customers and equipment manufacturers) to make sure our solutions meet expectations and are thoroughly tested through simulations and real-world trials.
•    Taking part in code and design reviews to help maintain high standards for software quality and performance.
•    Staying up to date with the latest in control systems, software architecture, and industry best practices.
You will be mainly accountable for:
•    Designing scalable, modular control software and communication frameworks supporting energy optimization and decarbonization goals.
•    Ensuring that solutions are thoroughly validated through both simulations and real-world implementations.
•    Contributing technical leadership and expertise to a diverse, collaborative team.
•    Maintaining documentation and records that support reliable solution deployment, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the organization.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
•    Proven experience in designing software and communication architectures for industrial control systems.
•    Practical experience with programming real-time systems (like PLCs) and software development tools.
•    Familiarity with fieldbus or other industrial communication protocols, and integration of control systems.
•    Hands-on experience with simulation tools and methods for testing control software.
•    Strong English communication skills (oral and written)

Preferred qualifications:
•    Proficient in Model-Based Design with MATLAB/Simulink, including developing and validating control algorithms through simulation.
•    Good understanding of dynamical systems and control theory.
•    Experience performing system verification and validation, including both simulation-based and real-world field testing.
•    Background in data center-specific solutions is a plus.
•    Experience with cloud-based services, remote monitoring, or predictive maintenance in an industrial context.
•    Exposure to multi-site, multinational project environments.
•    Familiarity with Danfoss product portfolio

Job Criteria
•    Advanced analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret simulation and field test results.
•    Ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary, multicultural teams.
•    Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
•    Proactive, self-driven approach with the flexibility to adapt in a dynamic work environment.
•    Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
•    Comfortable with hybrid or flexible work arrangements.
•    Ability to lead technical discussions and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
•    Occasional onsite presence at data centers, customer locations, or test facilities for field testing and system verification
