As a Senior Policy Manager at Nextdoor, you’ll lead the development and implementation of policies for content creation, publication, and user interaction that are aligned with Nextdoor’s business goals and values. In this role, you’ll inspire and lead global cross-functional teams through scalable processes to develop and iterate on policies, while identifying and consulting with critical external stakeholders as needed.

The Impact You’ll Make

You’ll shape the policies that govern how the nearly 85 million neighbors across 11 countries and many more cultures may interact on Nextdoor, facilitating constructive conversations where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on.  

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead the development and iteration of Nextdoor’s global platform policies, and refine them for specific products such as Advertising and For Sale & Free
  • Engage with Legal and Public Policy teams to ensure compliance with key and new regulations
  • Co-lead and develop cross-functional programs that are critical to enhancing the vitality of the Nextdoor neighborhoods, including Nextdoor’s elections program, crisis response program
  • Act as a global escalation point of contact for all platform policies and enforcement, and align all stakeholders and leadership to respond to emergency policy enforcement decisions
  • Identify and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders who may be consulted in the policy development process
  • Remain up-to-date on industry trends and emerging issues in the platform policy (integrity and trust & safety) space and design policies to address them
  • Participate in in-person Nextdoor events, trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and other team building exercises
  • Build in-person relationships with team members and contribute to the KIND culture that Nextdoor values

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • 8-10 years of demonstrated experience in policy development, with a focus on content policies and/or monetization policies, and/or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
  • Cross-functional Leadership: The ability to inspire, collaborate and lead various departments such as trust & safety operations, communications, legal, marketing, product development, and community to ensure that policies and programs align with overall business goals and values
  • Analytical Skills: Staying updated on emerging trends and potential challenges in the content landscape, and understanding impact on neighbors. Be aware and open to revising policies based on changing legal landscapes, emerging risks, or shifts in the Nextdoor’s neighbors’ attitudes or actions based on existing policies
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to write clear and comprehensive policy documents for a variety of audiences, including business stakeholders, neighbors, and moderators. This includes operational guidance documents
  • Ethical Judgment: The ability to make ethical judgments when it comes to content moderation, taking into consideration Nextdoor’s values, cultural sensitivities, diversity, and the impact on user experience
  • User-Centric Approach: Understanding the needs and expectations of Nextdoor’s user base is essential. Balancing content policies with user experience is crucial for maintaining a positive and engaging online environment
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with the technical aspects of content platforms, including moderation tools, algorithms, and data analytics

Compensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create one overall rewards package.

The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $135,000 - $190,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.
