AVP, Lawyers Professional Liability and other E&O line) - Preferred locations New York, NY or Jersey City, NJ. Chicago, IL. Hybrid Role with 2 to 3 days in the Office.
Summary:
The Assistant Vice President (LPL) is responsible for building and maintaining a book of Lawyers Professional Liability business, including both primary and excess. This role follows underwriting guidelines, rating manuals, and rules promulgated by the actuaries and LPL product management teams, reviews insurance applications, and quotes and binds insurance within delegated authority. The position involves working with brokers in the assigned territory to solicit business and market the company’s products, through phone calls and in-person interaction/travel.
This role participates in strategic initiatives, and contribute to product development and team management.
Responsibilities:
- Achieve underwriting production, profitability, and other financial targets for assigned brokers.
- Work with assigned brokers to market LPL insurance products, including traveling across the United States, as needed.
- Assist team leadership in the development of strategy, and in the building, enhancing and maintaining of new and existing products.
- Communicate to management concerns of key brokers and market opportunities.
- Ensure policy transactions are rated, booked, invoiced, and issued accurately and meet corporate time service standards. Transactions include quotes, new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
- Generate insurance quote letters and binder letters for LPL and related products per underwriter instructions.
- Policy issuance and in-force account management and servicing.
- Assist in quality verification of all policy transactions, processes, and procedures.
- Electronically print documents into the imaging system/electronic underwriting file, and label the documents appropriately adhering to corporate protocols.
- Communicate with producers to obtain information needed to complete transactions, etc. Contribute to service excellence by answering producer questions regarding policy status and insurance inquiries.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters, sharing expertise and fostering professional growth.
- Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives, including process improvement and product innovation.
- Prepare for future leadership responsibilities by collaborating with management on team goals and performance metrics.

Requirements:
- Experience with Lawyers Professional Liability
- Bachelor’s degree and 6-8+ years of relevant underwriting experience.
- Demonstrated ability to assess internal and industry data to inform appetite and pricing strategy.
- Strong analytical skills; exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-directed, strong organizational skills.
- Solid computer skills including artificial intelligence models, Word, Excel: email & internet-based technology.
- Solid verbal and written communication, as well as math skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and collaboratively.
- Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F’s risk management controls.
- Demonstrated interest in professional development and leadership.
- Experience mentoring or training others is a plus.
