Description
The Director, Retail Pharmacy Distribution dispenses medicines in a retail/store front location. The Director, Retail Pharmacy Distribution requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.Responsibilities
The Director, Retail Pharmacy Distribution sells prescription drugs to patients in a face-to-face interaction. Provides an experience centered around basic health and wellness products including general prescriptions as opposed to longer term or high cost specialty medications where a specialty/mail order pharmacy may be utilized instead. Operates under the advisement of an on-site pharmacist who provides counseling about the prescription as well as to offer advice about over the counter medications. Decisions are typically related to the implementation of new/updated programs or large-scale projects for the function and supporting technical/operational procedures and processes, and implements strategic plans, drives goals and objectives, and improves performance. Provides input into functions strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining relationships with various regulatory bodies such as state boards of pharmacy and federal agencies such as the DEA and FDA
- Develops and maintains relationships with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Recommending and coordinating the achievement of departmental goals and objectives
- Negotiates contracts as needed
- Prepares annual operating and capital budgets
- Prepares audits and summaries of budget variances
- Forecasts drug expense for purposes of revenue and expense budget planning
- Ensures integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the revenue cycle
- Analyzes, monitors, and reports on financial performance both internal to Retail Pharmacy and within CenterWell
- Oversees inventory management policies and procedures
- Ensures that pharmacy staff members are properly trained and comply with state regulations
- Contribute effectively to the development of new service offerings, marketing initiatives and proposals
- Ensuring medications are stored properly to prevent damage or contamination.
- Managing associates in the pharmacy department, including hiring, training, scheduling and performance management.
- Lead internal and member facing meetings
- Establishing an organizational structure with clear lines of authority and job responsibilities
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Pharmacy
- 8 or more years of pharmacy experience in a retail setting
- 5 or more years of management experience
- Licensed in all states requiring a pharmacist of record
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Humana's operating systems
- PharmD degree
