Purpose

The South Asia Institute (SAI) at the University of Texas at Austin is a federally funded resource center on South Asia related matters for Texas and beyond. Position will identify partnership opportunities with institutions of higher education in South Asia as well as process and manage paperwork related to these partnerships. This position will also assist with publicizing SAI events and student research as well as publish and SAI’s annual newsletter.  

Job Responsibilities 

  • Applying for Federal Grants including identifying opportunities for partnerships with institutions of higher education in South Asia and writing/submitting proposals for federal funding

  • Working with students to develop blogposts to publicize SAI evens such as the seminar series and conferences, and student research through a Students' Blog

  • Publishing the SAI Newsletter including planning, commissioning and editing content, and working with the design team

  • Processing J-1 Visitor applications of international visitors to UT for SAI programs and partnerships

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field with 1 year of experience.  Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Excel and Word. Professional demeanor and ability to work well with a wide variety of people. Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment. Ability to work with confidential information with tact and discretion. Ability to multi-task and effectively manage projects with attention to detail and extreme accuracy. 

Preferred Qualifications

More than the required experience. Experience with grant application, management, and reporting. Working knowledge of UT policies, procedures, and administrative systems.  Experience coordinating or providing administrative support for a program or office in a university setting.  Working knowledge of at least two South Asian languages.

Salary Range

$45,000+ depending on qualification ($22,500 prorated for 20 hours/week)
