Trading & Origination is Statkraft’s central commercial unit for proprietary trading of standard and origination of non-standard energy related products and assumes the role of a market integrator for third party renewable and flexible assets encompassing the supply of power and green solutions to customers in Europe and in the US. We trade Energy products in more than 20 countries and we’re active on 13 energy exchanges.

The key aspect of the role is supporting traders with analysis developed from a deep understanding of the drivers i.e., generation, transmission, regulatory, and demand.
You will need to quickly build credibility with internal customers to allow such foresight to be translated into commercial gain in the trading function. The emphasis is on developing both qualitatively and quantitatively advantaged capabilities, supported as appropriate by models, tools and techniques that yield high quality insight. In this role you will report directly to the Head of US Power & Gas.
You will focus on quantitative analysis and modelling of the US power markets to provide advice and insights to business opportunities and Strategy development.
Responsibilities:
- Research and understand the fundamental drivers related to supply/demand/transmission in the context of modelling focused on developing forward pricing views.
- Monitor market developments in market design/regulatory issues that could impact prices.
- Work closely with short-term and medium-term natural gas and emission analysts in market view development.
- Leverage commercial mindset to digest, analyse, and summarize large datasets for traders on the team
- Improve or follow project improving models used by the team.
- Propose trading strategy evaluating expected profit, risks, timing.
- Share best practice, knowledge within the team and outside.
- Deliver market view to support trading decisions.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or any related degrees preferred.
- Python or other coding experience preferred
- Relevant years of experience in Power Fundamentals and/or trading environment.
- Fundamental knowledge of US power markets, specifically PJM and/or ERCOT
- Excellent quantitative skills, attention to detail and the ability to deduce the key messages from complex datasets.
- Strong communication skills with all levels of the business
- Industrial or academic research experiences in electricity market, power systems, or commodity trading
Other attributes:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to turn raw data from a variety of resources into useful information with minimal oversight.
- Strong analytic skills and passion for working with large data sets and sophisticated models.
- Must be detail oriented with excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Pro-active approach to problem solving.
