POSITION SUMMARY
The Fellowship in Addiction Medicine is a one-year program designed to create champions of evidence‐based care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). During their time with the program, fellows will learn the skills needed to provide addiction treatment within the context of primary care. They will also develop skills needed to act as peer advocates to promote best practices for diagnosis and treatment in primary care medical practices as well as support to health care providers and ancillary personnel to allow them to practice evidence based care with confidence. The fellow will participate in a clinical and didactic curriculum focused on treatment of addiction, and will maintain a primary care patient panel.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Participate in the Addiction Medicine fellowship rotations at partner sites as assigned, including rotations on relevant inpatient services at affiliated hospitals, at methadone maintenance programs, needle exchange programs, and other sites providing services to patients and families.
- Participate in the Addiction Medicine didactics curriculum as scheduled.
- Provide addiction treatment to patients during one session each week as assigned at an IFH health center.
- Provide Addiction Medicine Hotline coverage as assigned to assist colleagues in the care of patients with addiction.
- Provide primary care to a panel of patients, including patients with addiction, for four sessions per week at a primary practice site.
Qualifications
KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
EDUCATION
Required
Preferred
- Completion of ACGME-accredited Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Obstetrics Residency Program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

- Board-certified or eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Obstetrics

- Have or be eligible to receive an unrestricted New York State Medical License.

- Have or be eligible to receive a DEA License.

COMPUTER PROFICIENCY

- Basic computer and internet navigational skills

- Computer literacy with Windows-based operating systems and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
