Your Impact in This Role

A Quality Testing Technician is an individual responsible for testing the quality of outbound materials and communicate findings relative to material specifications:

  • Assist in utilizing the SMI Quality system at SMI facility.

  • Lead in ensuring that product and services meet or exceed customer specifications.

  • Perform plant quality checks per SMI’s Quality Procedures.

  • Update and maintain quality records on a computer.

  • Perform and document in-process cullet sampling in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).

  • Conduct and document incoming and outgoing load inspections.

  • Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment operates efficiently to optimize product quality.

  • Wear appropriate site specific personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.

  • Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and company safety policies.

  • Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed.

  • Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

  • Experience in manufacturing, especially in Quality Control, Operations, and glass processing.

  • Familiarity with quality improvement processes, testing, auditing, and inspection equipment.

  • Ability to read and follow procedures and test methods.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Independent work ethic with minimal supervision.

  • Leadership and organizational abilities.

  • Basic computer skills (Excel, Outlook); data entry proficiency.

  • Comfortable using calculators, lab scales, and interpreting numerical data.
