Purpose
To provide specialized skills necessary to prepare and assure the high quality and appearance of a wide variety of food. Performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of food and for advising management on food to be served. Supervises and participates in the preparation, seasoning and cooking of meats, soups, vegetables, sauces and gravies, salads and desserts. Checks food for appearance and taste. Carves and displays meats, vegetables, desserts and salads. Plans for proper utilization of overproduced foods.
- Prepares food to be served in catering services and satellite operations, ensuring maintenance of high quality standards. Maintains cleanliness and safe working conditions in the kitchen area.
- Participates in cleaning kitchens and equipment. May train full-time and part-time employees in the use of machinery and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Food Handler's Registration Certificate. Operation of volume cooking and baking equipment and machinery.
- Experience in institutional or commercial cooking (one year).
