Role Description
Form Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Systems Reliability Engineer to improve the reliability and lifetime of our iron-air enclosures and deployed systems. As part of our Reliability team, you will work closely with the Systems Engineering team to develop test plans, analyze data, perform failure analysis, and define critical design requirements for electrical power systems. This role will require hands-on work in the lab and cross functional collaboration to evaluate, analyze, and propose design-for-reliability solutions to new and poorly understood problems and gain confidence in our product lifetime.
What you'll do:
Serve as subject matter expert on design for reliability best practices for critical design challenges relating to electrical systems and their subcomponents (e.g. bus bars, terminals, connectors, wiring harnesses, PCBs).
Closely partner with design owners to de-risk and down-select next-iteration enclosure and system design concepts and translate high level product requirements into functional reliability and lifetime requirements for components and subsystems
Design, execute, and analyze experiments internally and at external labs to evaluate failure mechanisms and their acceleration factors, including hands on testing of systems and components, and hands-on failure analysis
Engage with external vendors to drive and monitor reliability and lifetime testing of electromechanical components that can meet design requirements at scale
What you'll bring:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability engineering or related field, with 5+ years of industry experience in electrical systems validation
Hands-on experience testing electrical systems and components such as PCBs, bus bars, terminals, connectors, wiring harnesses
Hands-on experience with electronics test equipment, and the software to control and automate test equipment, including ability to write commands and test scripts
Familiar with developing accelerated lifetime tests to assess component reliability across a range of operating conditions (temperature, humidity, vibration/ shock, other environmental exposures), including derating analysis and highly accelerated lifetime testing
Strong understanding of circuit fundamentals, AC and DC power systems, and the thermal and mechanical implications of these circuits at high power and high voltage
Proven experience developing test plans, executing tests, and analyzing data to validate new system and component designs
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization, including remote team members
Hands-on experience with electrical power systems, including high voltage (>400 V) or high power (>10 kW) is preferred.
