Surgical Counselor

Job Summary:

 

The Surgical Counselor performs a variety of clerical duties necessary to the daily operation of the surgical practice or department. Primary duties include but are not limited to scheduling surgical procedures and any associated pre- or post- surgical appointments, labs, and imaging studies, and obtaining and ensuring that all referrals, pre-certifications, and prior authorizations are in place for the surgery and associated appointments. This position may also verify benefit coverage and discuss financial responsibility with the patient along with pre- and post- surgical requirements, risks, and complications per authorized protocol.

 

Education:

 

 1. High school diploma or GED

 

Experience:

 

 2. Previous experience in the medical field is preferred, but not required.

 3. Basic knowledge of the use and operation of general office equipment (computer, phone, copier, fax).

 4. Working with the public in a courteous and professional manner.

 

Skills:

 

 5. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and provide great customer service under stressful situations.

 6. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and pleasant manner in both verbal and written form.

 7. Ability to multi-task.
