Are you a Principal Software Engineer that is passionate about designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge services that utilize Generative AI Models? At Wells Fargo, we have an incredibly talented team that is responsible for empowering developers to build advanced agentic AI capabilities into their applications. By leveraging the latest Generative AI models, tools, and knowledge, we enable the rapid creation of customized, stateful AI applications grounded in enterprise data, capable of handling a wide array of tasks.


In this role, you will:

  • Build Large Language Model (LLM) services that support powerful capabilities for internal Wells Fargo users, with a focus on agentic operational services, model feedback and tuning mechanisms, and safety guardrails.

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups.

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking.

  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions.

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization.

  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership.


Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.


Desired Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Large Language Model (LLM) experience preferred.

  • Experience in backend application software development, with ability to quickly adapt to C# and Python code bases.

  • Experience with generative AI models, including model prompting, tuning, and safety best practices.

  • Strong understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic workflows.

  • Proficiency in databases and SQL for managing large-scale data operations.

  • Experience working with DevOps tools and implementing infrastructure as code.

  • Expertise in test-driven development and delivering maintainable, high-quality code.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize cybersecurity and risk in software development.

  • Familiarity with enterprise-scale software systems and their integration within large organizations.

  • Passion for building solutions that deliver a seamless, end-user-focused experience.

  • Experience working in agile environments and collaborating across diverse teams.

  • Compensation for this position is between $144,400 to $300,000 depending on experience and level of expertise.

  • Visa Sponsorship is not available for this role with Wells Fargo.

  • 3 days minimum per week in office.

  • 10% travel to support business objectives.
