About the Role:  

Advanced Practice Provider Team Lead

The advanced practice provider (APP) team lead includes a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist or physician assistant who provides clinical leadership, mentorship, and promotes the professional development of APPs within their division or department. They will serve as a liaison between the division(s) and Advanced Practice Provider Director. The team lead oversees the quality of care and productivity of the advanced practice provider. They also promote growth and professional development of the providers by developing and facilitating participation in continuing educational programs. They are responsible for oversight of new APP onboarding and monitoring orientation periods within their areas. They participate as a lead evaluator for advance practice provider FPPE/OPPE evaluation process within their area.

The APP will practice within their scope of practice as appropriate in their jurisdictional area and in accordance with the organizational Medical Staff Bylaws. The provider is responsible for the management of care to patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. Provides leadership and consultation with their respective clinical area through participation in division/department initiatives and mentorship of others. Participates in division/departmental and organization wide initiatives to represent advanced practice and leverage the role of the advanced practice provider.
Reporting Relationship:
Direct report to Division Chief
Oversight of specialty division APPs


 

What You’ll Bring:  

Minimum Education
Master's Degree Master’s or Doctoral degree as Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant from an accredited University and eligibility for medical staff credentialing (Required)

Minimum Work Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

  • Preferred nursing leadership experience for example as an educator, preceptor, council member or comparable positions. (Required)


Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the medical staff policy for allied health professionals required to be credentialed

  • Practice within framework of respective scope of practice

  • Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars

  • Ability to effectively provide conflict resolution

  • Self-directed detail oriented

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines and organizational leaders

  • Efficiently multitask and prioritize skills


Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Current APRN, PA in states/ areas of practice (DC/ MD/ VA) (Required)

  • Appropriate APRN or PA certification (Required)


Functional Accountabilities
Strategic

  • Focus on improving care delivery models to utilize APPs at top of their scope of practice to maximize productivity for the division.

  • Enhance infrastructure, informatics, equipment, and processes to optimize workflow and performance for APPs within the division.

  • Integrate quality improvement methodology into APP culture through tools, training, and hardwire principles into our organization to make processes more efficient.

  • Contribute to the sustainability and advancement of nursing excellence which translates into on-going Magnet© designation.

Financial Strength

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue generation related to the APP service line.

  • Examine the financial impact of APP utilization to enhance revenue and care delivery.

  • Identify new trends (policy, licensure, national, and local/ regional agencies), anticipating the broader impact for APPs within respective divisions.

Clinical

  • Lead the clinical team by providing exemplary direct patient care utilizing evidenced based medical knowledge.

  • Establish and monitor standards of clinical performance for the APPs in the department/division.
