Position Summary

We are hiring a data scientist for a co-appointment in the labs of Dr. Katherine Holzem (Department of Surgery, 60%) and Dr. Matt Glasser (Department of Radiology, 40%) at Washington University. The Holzem and Glasser labs are both seeking to better understand cellular niches and architecture using spatial transcriptomic techniques, with Dr. Holzem pursuing research on human aorta and peripheral vasculature and Dr. Glasser focusing on the human brain. We seek candidates with a strong background in statistical and computational methods for high-dimensional data analysis. A flexible/hybrid work environment is available.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs data analysis and/or data management for investigators using statistical packages including generation of tables and graphs.
  • Assists investigators in the design of experiments, clinical trials and epidemiological studies.
  • Assists in data base design, implementation and maintenance of data collected over time for research purposes, including acquisition, editing and reporting.
  • May assist in design and development of data entry systems.
  • May function as a statistical consultant primarily in collaborative studies involving the medical school community.
  • Develop and evaluate tools for transcriptomic and imaging data analysis.
  • Perform data visualization, quality control, and integrity monitoring.
  • Automate and improve analysis workflows; contribute to manuscript preparation.
  • Coordinate data sharing and maintain local and national data repositories.
  • Generate routine reports, statistical summaries, and figures using SAS, R, or Python.
  • Prepare figures for publication
  • Assist with the drafting and editing of manuscripts
  • Optional: contribute to wet lab tasks (e.g., tissue sectioning, IHC, qPCR).

Salary Range

$53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
