Job Purpose

Provide strong technical expertise and leadership in Process Development for contact lens manufacturing technology transfer and start-up with main focus on SCADA and automation. Work closely with MTO technical leads and R&D team to ensure successful implementation of contact lens manufacturing technologies. Lead and/or support the DSM Flex team for new product transfer / process development, equipment design, processes optimization and qualifications efforts. To ensure compliance to ISO/FDA, cGMPs, HSE regulatory requirements.  

Major Accountabilities

  • Lead process development aspects of contact lens manufacturing technology implementation to deliver results within projected timeline, excellent execution and documentation.

  • Lead user requirement specification (URS) development for processes equipment, inspection systems, SCADA and MES and liaise with vendors on technical discussion.

  • Lead design reviews for inspection equipment, SCADA and MES and work with global / R&D team to develop and transfer the technology to different sites.

  • Develop and execute equipment and processes validation approach / plan.

  • Lead and execute new equipment and processes installation, optimization, commissioning, qualification and validation. 

  • Proactively communicate project progress, key issues and any other critical topics in a timely manner to the appropriate management level and vendors.

  • Ensure compliance to cGMPs, ISO13485 / FDA, HSE, and Alcon Corporate policy requirements.  

Key Performance Indicators

  • Duly and accurately execute the project master plan by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and resolving problems.

  • Good documentation and presentations on project planning, status update.

  • Duly and accurately carry out the assigned task.

  • Timely availability of deliverables and milestones during execution of the project. Support budget adherence and resource management.

  • Ensure that quality and regulatory guidelines are met as appropriate.

  • Adhere to Alcon, in particular quality, ethical, health, safety, and environment (HSE), and information security (IGM) standards.

  • Number of patent filings for new inventions.

  • Optimized, prioritized usage of available resources to deliver above multiple results.

Technical/Functional Experience:      

  • 10+ years’ experience in contact lens industry

  • 7+ years in manufacturing process development

  • 5+ years in GMP-compliant operations

  • Comprehensive State-of-the-art knowledge of contact lens manufacturing process, from start to finish.

  • Excellent knowledge in SCADA, PLC and MES

  • Good knowledge and experience in GMP regulations

  • Proven problem-solving skills in application of advanced engineering principles and methodologies

  • Well-developed leadership skills in leading a large technical team of engineers, electro-mechanics and technicians to achieve multiple, concurrent goals

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +15 yrs.; Assoc.+11 yrs.; M.S.+4 yrs.; PhD+3 yrs.) 

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

  • 7 Years of Relevant Experience 

  • 5 Years of Demonstrated Leadership 

  • Work hours: M-F, standard

  • Travel Requirements: Travel to Germany twice a year, 1-2 weeks each time
