The Data Engineer works with application developers to automate and accelerate the testing, release and deployment of applications into a runtime environment quickly and reliably. The Engineer will have a background in development, operations, and full-stack implementations. They will also have experience programming in a high-level language such as Ruby, Python, Java, C# or other language to script installation, configuration and provisioning. They will be providing continuous delivery solutions in a cloud environment and have experience with the core suite of tools used to manage different cloud providers.
The Engineer may also be responsible for building and maintaining optimized and highly available data pipelines that facilitate deeper analysis and reporting by the Data and Analytics department

As a Data Engineer, you will: 

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy streaming and batch ingestion methods and pipelines across a variety of data domains leveraging programming languages, application integration software, messaging technologies, REST APIs and ETL tools.
  • Ensure that high-throughput, low-latency, and fault-tolerant data pipelines are developed by applying best practices to the data mapping, code development, error handling and automation.
  • As part of an agile team, design, develop and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture using both structured data sources and big data for both on-premise and cloud-based environments.
  • Develop and automate ETL code using scripting languages, ETL tools and job scheduling software to support all reporting and analytical data needs.
  • Design and build dimensional data models to support the data warehouse initiatives.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data pipeline performance, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and access to information.
  • Participate in requirements gathering sessions to distill technical requirements from business requests.
  • Collaborate with business partners to productionize, optimize, and scale enterprise analytics.
  • Collaborate with data architects and modelers on data store designs and best practices


Education

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Mathematics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Science or Analytics. Required

Experience

  • 2-5 years with a broad portfolio of AWS infrastructure tools (EBS, S3, EC2, Elastic IP, Route 53, VPC) and with cloud infrastructure management and automation technologies. Required
  • 2-5 years working with basic structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. Required
  • Basic SQL knowledge proficiency and analytical skills. Required
  • Exposure to modern data/analytics architecture (Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake, Big Data, Cloud, etc.). Required
  • Exposure to advanced analytics tools (Python, R, etc). Scripting (shell, python, ruby) skills for monitoring and automation. Required

Other Technical Skills Preferred

  • Thorough understanding of relational, columnar and NoSQL database architectures and industry best practices for development
  • Understanding of dimensional data modeling for designing and building data warehouses
  • Excellent advanced SQL coding and performance tuning skills
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools such as Terraform
  • Experience with big data streaming technologies such as Kafka
  • Experience with parsing data formats such as XML/JSON and leveraging external APIs
