Key Focus Areas / Deliverables (Statement of Duties)

The following are some of the key focus areas for the position.  These may change regularly or periodically, and duties should be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect changes in the role and to align with priorities.

Work is performed under general direction to achieve the required outcomes.  Within the scope of the role, flexibility, innovation and initiative are expected in providing alternative solutions to operational issues and challenges.

  • Proactively liaise with visitors, deliver exceptional customer service and present oral interpretation that meets PAHSMA standards. Assist and prioritize visitors with special needs respectfully and safely.
  • Maintain vehicles by undertaking minor repairs and maintenance monitoring of the fleet. Report any deterioration of the fleet or defects to the Visitor Services Manager. 
  • Provide general information about Port Arthur Historic Site layout, amenities and product offerings. Operate vehicles in pedestrian-heavy areas, adhering to speed limits and safe-driving protocols to ensure both safety of visitors and conservation of heritages areas.
  • Provide First Aid and/or support to PAHSMA First Aid Officer dealing with first aid or other situations on site, including emergencies.
  • Preparedness to work outdoors in variable weather and remain physically active during shift.
  • Other duties as required under direction of the Visitor Services Manager.

Capabilities & Attributes (Selection Criteria)

  1. Demonstrated safe vehicle operations and safe driving skills in pedestrian heavy areas while adhering to practices supporting conservation protection.
  2. An understanding of the importance of delivering excellent customer service and support to those with special needs respectfully and safely.
  3. The ability to work either independently or as a member of a team and exercise initiative, judgement, discretion and sensitivity in the workplace
  4. Good organisational skills as well as the ability to be adaptable and flexible, manage variable workloads and to prioritise work to meet deadlines
  5. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to undertake safe manual handling.

Essential Requirements

  • Current First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Current Driver’s License
  • WWVP Card (Working with Vulnerable People)
