Job Description

Are you a social media pro with strong news judgment and a knack for creative storytelling? Do you have experience taking meaty stories and producing easily consumable and shareable social media posts and graphics?

NBC News is looking for an associate social storytelling editor to produce and post creative original content across its flagship social media accounts, with an emphasis on highlighting the outstanding reporting of its diversity verticals: NBC Asian America, NBCBLK, NBC Latino and NBC Out. As a member of the platforms and social team, you will be responsible for planning and executing customized social rollouts for daily news stories and features and ensuring the reporting from the diversity sections thrives and finds audiences on social media. You’ll also work with other Digital teams to assess available visual elements and package them for distribution on various social platforms.

The ideal candidate will know how to craft content that social audiences will find deeply engaging and shareable and have demonstrated success building a following. The role is best suited for a creative thinker who has a deep understanding of the native languages of various social media platforms with some experience in graphic design and video editing.

This position is represented by the NewsGuild-CWA and is based in New York.

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000

Qualifications

Responsibilities include:

  • Distribute original reporting and breaking news on NBC News’ social accounts
  • Lead day-to-day posting for NBC News’ diversity verticals’ Instagram accounts
  • Work with the art, photo and data graphics teams to create bespoke social graphics
  • Write compelling and accurate headlines and social copy
  • Work with the social video teams to produce original video content and series
  • Select strong visuals for story promotion and live event coverage 
  • Identify viral stories and shareable content
  • Repackaging content for distribution on different social platforms
  • Tracking audience behavior to help inform promotion and overall strategy 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and comparable work experience
  • 1 or more years’ experience working in social media
  • Excellent writing skills, solid news judgment and a creative eye
  • Experience creating shareable content on Instagram
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop and graphic design
  • Basic knowledge of Premiere Pro and video editing
