Position Overview
The Engineering team in Siemens Gamesa is responsible for providing technical and compliance obligations for the lifecycle of large-scale Offshore Windfarms. The Engineering Team in North America is currently recruiting for specialist engineers to lead and execute the technical performance of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineers to support wind farm operational and technical performance. They will have a background in providing technical support to large generation assets. Wind industry experience is preferred and a solid technical background in troubleshooting industrial control systems is required.
The role will be based out of Norfolk, VA, operating on a shift pattern that will cover 24hrs assistance to the project (Days and Nights). During the ramp up phase of the project the Engineers will be the key interface between the existing site team, the regional and global technology teams and the Turbine Supply team ensuring the wind turbine generators are operating optimally whilst providing technical help and guidance to the field operations team.
Relocation may be offered for this role should it be necessary.
Responsibilities
Technical Support:
Perform remote monitoring and diagnosis of WTG errors to maximize generation and maintain asset integrity.
Provide remote assistance to offshore technicians for troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on wind turbines.
Analyze and diagnose technical issues using remote monitoring systems, SCADA data, and field reports.
Guide technicians through complex technical procedures to ensure safe and efficient repair or replacement of components.
Liaise with field engineers, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and other technical teams to resolve issues in real-time.
Monitor turbine performance via remote systems and identify potential issues before they lead to downtime.
Perform remote diagnostics and recommend preventive maintenance strategies to maximize uptime.
Analyze fault reports and alarms generated by wind turbine control systems.
Create and update detailed technical documentation for common troubleshooting scenarios and procedures.
Log and track cases using the company’s ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution and follow-up.
Provide comprehensive incident reports to the engineering and management teams, detailing technical issues, resolutions, and any required follow-up actions.
Coordinating with internal teams such as Engineering & Operations to ensure that all technical solutions comply with safety regulations and operational standards.
Escalate complex technical issues to advanced guidance or Engineering when necessary and track the resolution progress.
Interface with customers, stakeholders, or site managers as needed to explain technical issues and provide updates on ongoing work.
Assist in managing relationships with turbine manufacturers and third-party vendors for technical help and product knowledge.
Operations Support:
Ensure accurate reporting into and utilization of ATS internal database and other associated electronic workflow systems..
Building of work control packages for top concerns in products under operations..
Provision of data for monthly reporting process in conjunction with the Site Manager.
Remote Start/Stop of Wind Turbine Generators to facilitate safe Service Vessel Approach and Customer access requests..
Develop daily and, weekly emergent work plans and transmittal of emergent work packages to offshore field operations..
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Educational background in Engineering or Industrial Maintenance or +5 years’ field experience with service or commissioning (lead tech or commissioner)
Have cross-disciplinary knowledge of the wind turbine (electrical and mechanical), able to read electrical and hydraulic schematics, as well as troubleshoot turbine errors/alarms/warnings.
Ability to solve difficult technical challenges through innovation, dedication, and assisting the global team.
Ability to work and thrive both independently and in a team environment.
