About the Role
In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Managing Director, Software Engineering who will lead a team of software engineers focused on building Braven’s external-facing digital products as well as internal systems. As the leader of the engineering team, you will be responsible for guiding the software engineering team's technical execution, ensuring the team's ongoing training and development, and collaborating with other departments to meet Braven’s strategic goals.
This role is on the Systems team and reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
What You’ll Do
- Technology Leadership (20%)
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the engineering department, aligning with the overall business strategy.
- Team Development and Management (40%)
- Supervise and lead a team of engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities.
- Manage resource allocation effectively, including staffing, budgets, and project timelines.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Product Design and Development (40%)
- Work closely with other departments to define and implement product specifications, ensuring the highest level of quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate and oversee product development projects, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner and within budget.
- Regularly report to senior management on department performance and progress on projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- 10+ years of experience in an engineering role
- 3+ years successfully managing and developing a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Director of Engineering, or similar senior engineering management role.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Strong experience with several or more of Ruby, Python, Airflow, SQL, JS, and web frameworks.
- Fluency in engineering practices and methodologies, such as CI/CD, scrum/agile, TDD.
- You have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

Work Demands

- Travel 2-3 times per year
Additional Requirements
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
