Pay:

Under the direction of the Road Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of on-road or off-road equipment based on job classification.

Equipment Operator I –

Starting Pay: $16.54/hr

Must be able to operate the following:

Mower Tractor/Brush hog          Rollers          Front End Loader          Construction Sweeper

Equipment Operator II –

Starting Pay: $18.24/hr

Must be able to operate equipment required of Equipment Operator I and the following:

Dump Truck          Sweeper*          VACON*

Equipment Operator III

Starting Pay: $20.10/hr

Must be able to operate equipment required of Equipment Operator II and the following:

Skid Steer          Mini Excavator          Grad-all I         Bull Dozer I

Equipment Operator IV-

Starting Pay: $23.35/hr

Must be able to operate equipment required of Equipment Operator III and the following:

Grapple Truck*          Full Size Excavator          Grad-all II          Bull Dozer II          Bucket Truck/Chipper         

Note: List may not be fully inclusive of all County-owned on-road equipment or off-road equipment.

*Specialized Positions; not required unless assigned

As the operator increases their skills and ability to operate multiple pieces of equipment, they may be assigned to the Equipment Operator classification for which they meet the qualifications.  If their proficiency on a piece of equipment is not satisfactory, they may be demoted to a lower level of Equipment Operator with a reduction in pay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible at all times for the safe and efficient operation of equipment, ensuring vehicle is operated in accordance with all related County, State and Federal Regulations
  • Carries out daily inspections of equipment, lubricates equipment where necessary, and notifies Fleet Maintenance Supervisor immediately if there are any defects in equipment or performance
  • Ensures that all safety devises and/or controls are in place and fully functional
  • Assists maintenance personnel in the repair and/or maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Maintains the serviceability and cleanliness of any personal protective equipment required and ensures its proper use
  • Assists a crew when called upon
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Equipment Operator I

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of Clay County road system (Preferred)
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience required
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Equipment Operator II

  • Must meet the minimum requirements of Equipment Operator I
  • Valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B required) with a clean driving record
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required

Equipment Operator III

  • Must meet the minimum requirements of Equipment Operator II
  • Minimum of 1.5 years of relevant experience required

Equipment Operator IV

  • Must meet the minimum requirements of Equipment Operator III
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
