2024 Guardian Life Summer Intern, Corporate Development

Our 2024 Internship Program is a paid 10-week learning experience where you will be immersed in the daily environment of a thriving global financial services company.  You will gain invaluable industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments, in addition to engaging in projects that directly affect our business, interact with senior leaders in conversational settings, and network with employees and interns across our offices. This 10-week internship provides you with realistic experiences and information of what it is like to work at Guardian.

On the highly visible Corporate Development team, you will work as part of a project team to identify, develop, evaluate, prioritize, and deliver strategic transactions across the organization, as well as solve complex problems and develop the long-range plans for Guardian. The group is responsible for working with the businesses to develop inorganic strategic theses, and identify, source, assess, develop, and execute M&A, venture and other enterprise and business partnerships, as well as manage and optimize these transactions and relationships.

You will have the opportunity to support projects across M&A, venture capital, and execution:

  • Venture, partnership and M&A transactions: Participate in the execution of venture, acquisition, disposition and partnership transactions on behalf of Guardian, including industry research, profiling of targets, assessment of opportunities, and preparing PowerPoint decks.
  • Innovation / initiative incubation: In collaboration with business areas, help to assess and develop cases for new insights driving innovation, partnerships, and areas of investment outside of business-as-usual and incubate development and execution of innovation initiatives.
  • Participation in strategic initiatives: Identify, frame and implement specific strategic initiatives that are essential to the success of Guardian’s overall strategy.

Internship Dates:

The internship program will run from Monday, June 3, 2024- Friday, August 9, 2024.

You are:

  • A rising senior (graduation date of December 2024- June 2025) who is motivated by collaboration, able to listen and make quick decisions and thrive in a goal-oriented environment.
  • Someone that has a strong financial background and curiosity about M&A, private equity and venture capital.
  • Proactive, resourceful, impact oriented, and an excellent problem solver who is able to identify issues and perform analysis.
  • Someone that has strong communication skills, maturity and judgment.
  • An effective communicator (both oral and written) and work well in cross-functional teams.
  • A self-starter who is able to work independently and prioritize across multiple tasks.
  • Organized with strong attention to detail.

You have: 

  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • A strong GPA, particularly in finance-related courses.
  • Ability to influence while building trust and consensus among multiple collaborators/cross functional teams with challenging interests.
  • Experience handling sophisticated projects and/or timelines.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop strong relationships.
