Collins Aerospace is currently searching for an Electrical Engineering Manager to join our Vision and Connectivity Systems Team in Burnsville, MN.

This position is for a highly motivated manager to lead a growing team of Electrical and FPGA Engineers whose charter is to engage in product development and full-life cycle electrical/FPGA design support for legacy and new market entry products in areas of passive and active video solutions, pilot support systems and prognostics and health monitoring solutions.

This is an Onsite position at our Burnsville, MN site.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performance management of a team of 8-12 Electrical and FPGA engineers including: establishing trust with each team member through regular one-on-ones; performance evaluation and feedback; understanding team members strengths and weaknesses; balancing project needs with team members growth; clearing roadblocks that may arise and communicating effectively through leadership channels.
  • Provide EE team leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, hardware architecture, schematic capture, simulation, analysis, PWB layout, prototype and production releases, integration, verification, qualification, and certification. Provide similar FPGA development support including but not limited to RTL design, VHDL coding, simulation, place and route, timing analyses and functional verification.
  • Provide technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance.
  • Actively support engineering resource management.
  • Demonstrate a passion for coaching and mentoring.
  • Well-versed in hardware engineering skills, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team.
  • Identify, recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced engineers.
  • Build and leverage networks within the department and throughout Collins Aerospace.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline engineering teams and Integrated Product Teams including Value Stream Leadership, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Department and Executive Leadership.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external customers, electronics suppliers, and 3rd party design services.
  • Familiarity with industry and product trends and exhibiting forward thinking insight to recommend next generation offerings to adopt into our products.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Typically requires: 

Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR  Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR  In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required  

U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior management experience leading engineering teams and engaging in engineering resource assignment and allocation.
  • Hands-on experience in PCB circuit design
  • Understanding of / experience with high speed / digital design
  • Familiar with FPGA design processes
  • Background in video systems desirable
  • Practical experience in all phases of project pursuit, development, electrical integration and test
  • Experience with product development to aerospace, automotive or equivalent standards
  • Experience with low voltage power supplies, controllers, and translation modules
  • Experience/knowledge with development methods such as Agile a plus
  • Demonstrated success leading electrical project teams (on time and on budget) using best practices in project management tools and techniques.  PMI PMP certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams that are developing multiple independent projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated experience using current generation electrical engineering and analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated experience developing embedded designs utilizing FPGAs, DSPs, Microcontrollers along with digital and analog interfaces and peripherals.
