National Grid is hiring a Lead Product Owner for our Customer Energy Management NY department in Albany, Brooklyn, or Syracuse, NY to support the company’s weatherization energy efficiency program for residential customers in New York City, Long Island, and Upstate NY.
Job Purpose
Under the Customer Energy Management New York (CEM NY) group for National Grid’s gas and electric operating companies in NY, the Residential Category team is responsible for the portfolio and program strategy and performance for energy efficiency (EE) programs serving residential customers.
As part of the Residential Category Team, this Lead Product Owner role will be responsible for developing strategies to continuously improve residential weatherization EE program(s) in Upstate and Downstate NY to drive contractor participation and customer adoption of home weatherization measures such as air sealing and insulation.
The ideal candidate will have experience with utility EE programs, weatherization or building envelope improvement measures and technologies, and/or relevant industry training such as Building Performance Institute certification.
Key Accountabilities
- Program strategy and management: Responsible for the overall EE program lifecycle to achieve regulatory energy savings targets within authorized budgets, manage customer energy demand, and meet climate change and equity objectives to advance National Grid’s position as a leader in these fields and support achievement of NY state’s policy and regulatory goals.
- Regulatory support: Lead development and implementation of relevant regulatory strategy in consultation with internal stakeholders to develop regulatory filings to support the Company’s EE proposals and comply with NY Public Service Commission requirements.
- Track, analyze, and report program data to drive results: Work with partner teams to track, analyze, and report data on program performance (e.g., savings, spend, etc.) to inform enhancements and optimizations, meet regulatory requirements, and contribute to EE program growth.
- Stakeholder collaboration and management: Lead communication and collaboration with internal business partners and stakeholders to provide input on program plans and develop processes for delivery of approved plans, and comply with company reporting, evaluation, and policy objectives. Coordinate and collaborate with key external stakeholders (e.g., NY State Public Service Commission, DPS Staff, NYSERDA, NY Joint Utilities, etc.) to enhance program performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, social science, science, or engineering. Other education or professional training may be acceptable if other knowledge and experience requirements are met.
- At least five years of work experience with weatherization or building performance contractors, building construction, design or delivery of weatherization/building performance programs, and/or other utility EE programs
- Demonstrable experience with qualitative and quantitative work in the energy/utility industry such as market potential analyses, strategy development, policy and regulatory compliance, and budget planning for energy/utility programs
- Knowledge of the electric and gas industry, evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V) practices and standards for EE programs, weatherization measures including installation methods and industry standards, residential construction, residential building codes and building energy codes, and HVAC systems and standards
- Regulatory experience, including managing regulatory processes or contributing to regulatory filings at the local, state, or national level
- Knowledge of general utility business operations, regulatory requirements, financial accounting, policies, and practices.
- Knowledge of relevant utility legislation and regulation in the United States. Knowledge of NY utility legislation and regulation
