Unit: Nutrition Schedule: Mon – Fri, some weekends

Direct Reports: No Reports to: Director of Client Services

Position Summary:

Feeding Northeast Florida is on a mission to solve hunger in Northeast Florida. The Registered Dietitian (RD) primarily works with clients that have been identified as food insecure with nutrition related conditions. The RD will report to the Nutrition Department and will collaborate with the Nutrition team, healthcare and other partners, and other members of the organization to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy, nutrition education, and administrative support for the Foodbank’s mission:

Under the direction of the Director of Client Services, the RD will play a key role at FNEFL by promoting better health through the encouragement of behavior change, MNT, nutrition education and facilitating policy and programs that make healthy choices the easy choice.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include the development and implementation of nutrition therapy programs and healthcare partnerships, in addition to other foodbank programs. Additional principal responsibilities are:

  • Co-develop a Medical Nutrition Therapy Program for use at healthcare partner clinics and agency partners. 
  • Co-develop a Nutrition Education Program for use alongside our mobile markets and healthy pantry network. 
  • Accurately assess client’s SDOH needs and screen for services and programs, assisting in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Evaluate psychosocial, functional, and behavioral factors related to food access, selection, preparation; physical activity; and understanding of health condition.
  • Evaluate client and family’s knowledge, education needs and ensure that client/family members have adequate information to participate in nutrition care plan.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with food bank healthcare partners and coordinating timely collection and reporting of referrals and patient outcome measures in compliance with HIPAA standards.
  • Initiate and maintain communication and collaboration with care giving disciplines and clients/families to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for the client. 
  • Anticipate barriers/variances to the delivery of care and intervene when necessary.
  • Assess educational needs and provide nutrition counseling based on individual needs, including nutrient requirements, knowledge and abilities, and medical, economic, and social situation. 

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition or related field granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist as delineated by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Certification/Licensure as required by the state of Florida.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and ability to travel throughout Northeast Florida.
  • Preferred bilingual. 

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps, knowledge of or willingness to learn ANDHII.
  • Comprehensive knowledge, application of medical nutrition therapy, human behavior and techniques for effecting behavior change.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition education in low-income audiences.
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, critical judgement, active listening, and observations. Decision making, problem solving and collaboration.
  • Excellent motivational interviewing skills and demonstrated ability to empathize with varied populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to work with diverse populations, including low-income families, community partners, etc. Demonstrated growth mindset and tolerance for ambiguity balanced by customer service and creative problem-solving skillsets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of current literature and evidence-based guidelines/practices in providing appropriate and competent nutritional care. 
  •  Two years’ experience working in a community setting, providing nutrition education services. 
  •  Two years’ experience providing effective Participant Centered Education and services to individuals and families with lower incomes. 
  •  Ability to adapt nutrition therapy, program planning, and educational curricula in a culturally competent manner; including the ability to design, implement, and evaluate instruct
