About the role

Description

Reed College Biology department seeks applicants for a full-time research associate to study the bacterial degradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33361127/), the material used to make plastic water bottles. This role reports to Jay Mellies, Professor of Biology. This is not a remote position.

Funding for this work is from a three-year, collaborative NSF RUI grant. Starting salary for this position is $22-$24/hour. Pay offers are contingent upon experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment. This is an overtime eligible position on the Research pay grade.

Who You Are

  • You hold a bachelor or masters degree in a related field

  • You have experience in bacterial genetics, chemistry, and have an interest in metabolism

  • You have strong organizationals and writing skills

  • You are interested and able to work in a lab alongside students and to serve as a mentor and resource 

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct work in accordance with the instructions of the P.I.

  • Interpret, analyze and present data

  • reports on the status of research activities

  • Modify and perform experiments from start to finish

  • Oversee students in the lab as assigned

  • Set up, operate and maintain lab equipment

  • Other duties as assigned

  • You hold a bachelor or masters degree in a related field
