Duties and Responsibilities

The Family Support Legal Section (FSLS) is seeking candidates to consider for the position of Assistant Attorney General. The section is part of the DOJ Civil Enforcement Division with offices in Eugene, Salem and Portland.  This position is based in Eugene.  The Assistant Attorneys General of the FSLS represent the Oregon Division of Child Support in all 36 counties of the state. The Division of Child Support strives to promote the well-being of the children of the state of Oregon by supporting parents to support children.  The selected candidate will be specifically responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice and litigation services to the Division of Child Support.  This includes, but is not limited to, researching and advising the agency on administrative and legal issues, representing the agency at hearings to establish, modify, and enforce child support orders, and prosecution of contempt of court.

Required

  • Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar at the time of appointment.

  • Minimum of five years practical civil litigation experience within past ten years.

  • Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal advice with frequent court appearances. 

  • The position will be located in our Eugene offices and will require travel (including overnight) to counties throughout the state, depending on assignment; applicants must be willing and able to travel as necessary.

Desired Experience

  • Experience litigating cases in state court, including civil or criminal.

  • Experience in Child support or family law preferred but not required. 

  • Experience with administrative law.

  • Experience in managing a high-volume caseload.

  • Experience representing a client agency as a part of an interagency team.
