The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a project manager III (PM3) with medical project management experience for the Planning, Design and Construction Department. PM will provide professional project management and leadership for major Capital Improvement Program (CIP, >$10M TPC) projects at UT Austin for highly technical, mission critical, and sensitive project types.  PDC is actively managing a $1.3 billion hospital project, in partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as multiple time-critical enabling projects focused on the development of a new central utility plant and major utility improvements. This position is critical for the successful delivery of these projects. If you are experienced in project management, design, or construction and want to help transform facilities that engage the university community and advance UT's education, research, and public service missions, we encourage you to apply for rewarding career opportunities in PDC.

Purpose

Provide professional project management of healthcare design and construction projects to support the university medical facilities. Projects will include new construction, fit-out of shell spaces, renovation of existing spaces, and refurbishment of existing building and campus infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates leadership, management, organization and communication skills. Provide excellent customer service to meet client needs and university Design and Construction Standards.

• Provide professional direction for project teams to achieve common goals and successful projects. Mentor and guide PM staff with less experience, to support successful project delivery at all levels of the organization.

• Provide consistent, timely and reliable communication between all project stakeholders, including clients, professional service providers, university personnel and contractors to ensure that projects are thoroughly documented and understood. Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Assist with development of project scope, budget and schedule for multiple projects or tasks simultaneously. Tracks project budgets and schedules, and develops reports as directed. Keep facilities database software up to date reflecting current project information.

• Procure services of Professional Service Providers (PSPs) and Construction teams and help administer agreements.

• Stay current in Codes and Regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, and any special requirements of the building type (e.g., healthcare, research labs, special campus project types, etc.) or the local jurisdictions. 

• Learn and maintain awareness of project safety requirements, following OSHA standards.

• Participate on committees, task forces, etc. to improve the departmental mission of excellent customer service and project delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Construction Management,  Construction Science, or related discipline.
• 4 or more years of experience providing project management of design and construction activities for renovations and new construction of healthcare, institutional or commercial facilities.
• Working knowledge of contract documents (plans, specifications).
