Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Inpatient Pediatric Registered Dietitian I.

 

The Inpatient Pediatric Registered Dietitian I provides medical nutrition therapy at UChicago Medicine’s Comer Children’s Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU. They play a critical role in assessing, planning, and managing nutrition interventions to support healthy growth, manage medical conditions, and improve overall health outcomes in pediatric patients. The preferred dietitian has at least 1-2 years of experience specializing in the nutritional care of infants, children, and adolescents. Potential to join our Pediatric Nutrition Support Team based on experience. 

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of pediatric nutrition and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills for interacting with children and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records and nutrition analysis software.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with evidence-based practices.

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Performs the nutrition care process (nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis and determination of care goals, nutrition intervention, and monitoring and evaluation) for patients at nutrition risk and others identified per department standards as in need of nutrition care.
  • Provide age-specific patient education (assessment of learning needs and barriers to learning; communication with patient/caregivers and assessing learning transfer) and develop materials as needed to augment the education process.
  • Calculates nutrient requirements and intake.
  • Assesses need for and determines appropriate composition, rate, etc. of enteral tube feeding and standard parenteral nutrition, if applicable
  • Uses computer programs to access information and communicate with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Documents clinical care according to organizational guidelines

 

 Required Qualifications:

 

  • BS/BA or MS degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or other relevant major with completion of didactic program in dietetics if necessary
  • Successful completion of completed program, dietetic internship, or other experience approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetic Education
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation

Position Details:

  • Job Type/FTE: Full-time (1.0 FTE)
  • Shift: Days – 8 hour shift
  • Work Location: Hyde Park
  • 1,500 SIGN ON BONUS ELIGIBLE
  • CBA Code: Non-Union
